For Bobbie, the encounter offers a brief sense that she may finally have reached somewhere safe. But in Blood Star, safety is always temporary.

Who Is Blake in Blood Star?

Blake works at a remote gas station along Bobbie’s journey through the desert.

By the time she reaches him, Bobbie has already begun to understand that Sheriff Bilstein’s interest in her is far from routine. She is increasingly isolated, uncertain who she can trust and desperate to find a way out of the situation developing around her.

Blake therefore enters the film at a crucial point. He represents the possibility of normality: another young person simply doing his job, unaware that he has become part of something much more dangerous.

The sequence also expands the world beyond Bobbie and the sheriff. Until this point their relationship has increasingly begun to feel like a private game of pursuit, but Blake’s presence reminds us that other people can be pulled into the consequences of that conflict.

Merback brings a relaxed, natural quality to Blake that is deliberately different from the more threatening personalities Bobbie encounters during the film.

The performance needed to feel unforced. Blake is not introduced as a heroic figure or as another obvious threat; he is simply someone Bobbie meets along the road. That normality is exactly what gives the sequence its tension.

One of the ideas running through Blood Star is the difficulty of recognising danger before it is too late. Sheriff Bilstein wears a badge and initially presents himself as someone who should be trusted. Blake, by contrast, has no authority or power at all, yet his ordinary presence briefly feels far safer.

That contrast is central to the film.

A Growing Screen Career

Since appearing in Blood Star, Felix Merback has continued building a rapidly expanding screen career across independent film, television and short-form drama.

His recent credits include When It Rains in LA, The Summer I Turned Bad, Vibeland Chronicles and Dead Janitors Club, alongside a growing number of digital and vertical drama productions.

Merback has also become increasingly active in the fast-growing vertical drama sector, appearing in projects including Mommy, I Got You a Date.
